Subject: Clarification on Oratcl, TclBlend, and Winico announcements - DN [1]

Scott Redman <redman@scriptics.com> - 08 Oct 1999 - comp.lang.tcl

We wanted to clarify what role Scriptics is playing with the
extensions that we have recently announced on comp.lang.tcl
 and comp.lang.tcl.announce, specifically Oratcl, TclBlend,
and Winico. Our primary role is that we are now hosting
the CVS repositories for these extensions, and since we are
going to be using them in our products we are also providing
the Bug Database that is also used by Tcl/Tk.

For those that do not know: Oratcl is an Oracle database
extension for Tcl, TclBlend is a Java extension for Tcl allowing
Tcl to use Java classes including EJB & RMI, Winico is a
 Windows-only extension providing "wm iconbitmap"-like
functionality (allowing you to set the Window icon at runtime).

Oratcl is still maintained by Tom Poindexter. We have worked
to make Oratcl TEA-compliant so that we could use it in our
products and decided to keep those changes in the Open Source
community. Tom agreed to allow us to host the CVS repository
and we will accept bug reports and feature requests for Oratcl.
All bug reports, etc., will be forwarded to Tom. We are
also working to get the code to use Tcl objects (TclObj).
This work may or may not make it into Oratcl 2.6, but it
will be added soon thereafter if it is not (in 2.7).

TclBlend, which has been maintained most recently by Mo DeJong,
will be maintained by Mo and Scriptics. We will manage the
1.2.x branch of the code, Mo will work on 1.3. The code is
now TEA-compliant. Again, send bug reports to Scriptics.

Winico is still maintained by Leo Schubert. We made the code
TEA-compliant for our own products, and after discussion with
Leo Schubert it was decided to announce it's availability in
the Scriptics CVS repository. Leo will continue maintenance
and binary releases of the code.

While we went through these efforts for our own products, we
have returned it all to open source to encourage and foster
development in the Tcl community. In the future, as we work
into a better routine, we will be opening up the CVS repository
and bug database to any and all extension writers.

If you are interested in commercial-level support for any of
these or other extensions, please contact sales@scriptics.com.
