I would like to extend my thanks to Jeff Hobbs for stepping in at such short notice for last week's Tcl-URL! - the New Jersey telecommunications infrastructure proved to not be very resistant to extremes of weather!

• Abelson, Greenspun, and Sandon have freshened their on-line introduction to Tcl http://photo.net/teaching/manuals/tcl/index.adp
• Suggested roadmap for Tcl/Tk 8.3 and follow-up discussions (thread [2])
• Long discussion about potentially introducing new comment styles, and the implications (a Tcl 9.0 timeframe issue) (thread [3])
• Eval and Concat - a discussion about the damage that can be done by performing string concatenation instead of list concatenation, and various suggestions for improving the current situation (thread [4])
• A surprisingly long discussion was spawned by Jeff Hobbs polling for comments on changing the semantics of unset to not throw errors. One of the highlights of this discussion is a very concise summary by Don Libes of the existing inconsistencies in Tcl with respect to errors (thread [5])
• A comparison of speed between Tcl and Python for numerical algorithms, leading to various tips for improving the speed of such Tcl programs (thread [6])
• Support for reading zip files from Tcl, which leads to a discussion of wrapping scripts and executable content into a single executable for efficient delivery (thread [7])
• Discussion of the limitations of clock scan (such as not supporting most ISO dates) and various issues (such as I18N) surrounding improving it (thread [8])
