Subject: Comments on switching to the Cygnus development system - DN [1]

Brent tells me that Scriptics is considering switching compilers. They intend to migrate from VC++ to the Cygnus tool set available at http://www.cygnus.com, The best part is that it's not Microsoft and it's free. The bad part is that 1)it's a UNIX/POSIX like environment, 2) several non-POSIX hacks are present, 3)documentation is sparse to non-existent -- they have no 'man' capability and no 'info' capability so how the heck can we read their published man pages? I think the only solution to the development system problem is to start writing specifications explaining how to build TCL/TK in sufficient detail that competent programmer can write a makefile for any compiler/linker combo.
