Subject: New Tcl/Tk book on stands - DN [1]

This is somewhat self-serving, but should also be of interest to
 the group.

My Tcl/Tk book: "Tcl/Tk for Real Programmers" is now available. This
is the second book in the Academic Press "Real Programmer" series,
and is not connected with J Adrian Zimmer's "Tcl/Tk for Programmers"
 (another good book).

The target audience for the book is a programmer who doesn't know
Tcl/Tk, but needs to learn it (or learn about it) quickly, either for
use on an existing Tcl/Tk project, or decide whether it's the tool to
 use on a new project.

My goal was to create a book that would get folks up and running as
quickly as possible, while still being a fairly complete reference. To
that end, the CD-ROM has several Tcl/Tk tutorials from the web, along
with my TclTutor program to get folks programming fast.

The book text has some tutorial material, but spends more time
discussing how to use Tcl/Tk, with an emphasis on using namespaces and
 packages, and object style programming.

There are also a few chapters with brief overviews of some of the
 more popular extensions and tools.

The CD-ROM includes a set of chapters written by David Beazley,
Christopher Nelson, Donal K. Fellows, Carsten Zerbst, Doug Hughes,
Andreas Kupries and me describing how they used Tcl/Tk in Real World
 (tm) projects.

The CD-ROM also includes Tcl/Tk source code and binary distributions,
copies of all the non-commercial extensions and packages reviewed,
 and examples from the book.

 I didn't cover everything I wanted to cover, but I think I made a
decent stab at covering the language.
