Subject: ANNOUNCE: Img 1.2.3 - DN [1]

Jan Nijtmans <j.nijtmans@chello.nl> - 18 Jan 2000 - comp.lang.tcl.announce

I'm pleased to announce the availability of Img version 1.2.3 (funny
version number, isn't it?), the first one in the new Millenium.
Not that any Milenium bugs are found (Img doesn't handle dates),
but still a few small bug-fixes and improvements.

This version is 100% upwards compatible with earlier versions, so
everyone using Tk8.0 or higher is recommended to upgrade.

 What is Img
 -----------

Img is an extension which adds many format handles to Tk. This version
is known to work with at least Tk 8.0 up to 8.3 but it should also work
 with any other future versions.

Currently available are 2 source distributions and a binary self-extracting
distribution for Windows. Information where and how to download it is
 available at:
     http://purl.oclc.org/net/nijtmans/img.html

 Changes in version 1.2.3:
 - Web-site now gives instructions how to download it through http as well. It
seems that many (NT/IE5/Firewall) users have problems with ftp download.
 - All dll's in the Windows distribution are now compiled with gcc-2.95.2
 - libtiff upgraded to version 3.5.4
 - All format handler names are now lower case. This allows Tk to auto-detect
whether the extension uses the string-based or Tcl_Obj-based API.
 - Img-patch will be integrated in Tk8.3, so you can now exploit all
features of Img without having to patch the core.
 - A few minor portability improvements.

 Available formats:
PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, XBM, XPM, Postscript
