Metakit II

Metakit has evolved for several years now. The current state of this product is described in considerable detail in a separate page: the state of Metakit.

It is time for a next generation of this high-potential tool. There is a lot of experience with the current implementation, there are well-known limitations such as not being multi-user and not scaling up to the gigabyte database range.

It will happen.

It's likely to contain quite a few of the current ideas, and even a lot of the core C++ implementation.

But it will also take advantage of scripting. I expect to be able to rewrite a new release of Metakit with 80% scripting and 20% C++, with less code than it is now, more functionality, much more flexibility, and probably even greater performance. It's the 80/20 rule of software development. I now know approximately what those 80% and 20 % are...

March 2000 - I've started working on a number of enhancements, such as a new Metakit file format [1].

April 2000 - Another area of change concerns the [New Metakit transaction modes [2].
